Skateboarding is a sport that gains more and more importance in Brazil and on international level and that is getting especially popular to young girls. The international well-known Skateboard champion Karen Jonz, originally from Brazil, plays an important role in this development, as she is the first girl that achieved a fantastic victory during the Summer X-Games (one of the most important and biggest extreme sport events) 2008 at Los Angeles! The year after, she could build on this great success and reached second position at the Summer X-Games 2009 – supported by DARK DOG, the Guarana & Vitamin Energy Drink!
Karen Jonz started skating when she was 17 years old in Santo André – Brazil and was taking part in different street and mini ramp contest around Brazil. In 2003, she travelled to the USA in order to compete during the "All Girl Skate Jam".
Until 2005, she was skating during different contests together with boys and later on, she also travelled to Europe in order to take part in international, more important contests. After competing in Germany, Czech Republic and France, she was declared "European vert Champ" and out of the sudden was getting famous sawing her face on one of the biggest skateboard magazine of Brazil, called Tribo Skate.
In 2006, she got the unique opportunity to participate in the Summer X-Games of Los Angeles (the internationally most important extreme sport event) which she finished with a superb third position.
Between writing articles for sport magazines, doing interviews, filming and art shows, Karon was announced Femal Verticla World Champion at the end of 2006.
In 2008, she entered some pro (men) contests and to her own surprise made the finals in Rio de Janeiro. Karon took part in the X-Games of Brazil and ended the competition with a 17th position. Again, she had the great opportunity to participate in the Summer X-Games in the USA where she gained the victory – one of the biggest things of her carrier so far.
